How to Get to Ha Giang from Hanoi

Ha Giang is a remote mountainous region in northern Vietnam with many unseen curves, cliffs, and steep slopes. For a long time, inhabitants had only one main mode of transportation: the local symple vehicle. However, since socioeconomic development has advanced and tourism development based on abundant natural resources and beautiful landscapes has been encouraged, transporting tourists from Hanoi to Ha Giang, or connecting tourism provinces to Ha Giang, has become more easier. There are several modes of transportation available, such as

FROM HANOI CAPITAL 

1 – By local bus

The majority of Hanoi - Ha Giang buses currently depart from My Dinh bus station. There are various departure times from bus station, however the cabin bus or sleeper bus is the preferred alternative for saving time and money between Hanoi and Ha Giang. Please keep in mind that space must be reserved in advance for holidays.
Generally, it takes about 6- 7 hours to travel 300 kilometers from Hanoi to Ha Giang or vice versa.

2 - By personal vehicle

Motorcycles and private cars are allowed on the Ha Giang journey. However, because the adventure to Ha Giang is not easy, you can take stops along the way. Tourists traveling from Hanoi typically choose to leave between 6-7 a.m, in order to get in Ha Giang city at lunch time and continue their exploration in the afternoon.
Taking a private vehicle directly to Ha Giang from Noi Bai airport is another ideal option for clients flying to the airport. The road from Hanoi to Ha Giang is frequently difficult to navigate, with multiple hazardous mountain crossings, so travelers should use caution.
Depending on the vehicle type and departure time, a private car rental will cost between $150 and $200 each trip.

FROM OTHER CITIES 

With the development of tourism in Vietnam, tourists also may easily catch a bus from other tourist destinations to Ha Giang such as Sapa, Halong Bay, and Ninh Binh.

1- From Ha Long Bay, Vietnam 

Sleeper bus departs Halong City Bus Staion for Ha Giang around 20.00pm daily.  It takes approximately 8-9 hours to complete one trip.
And bus tickets range from $15 to $20 USD each ticket each way.

2. From Ninh Binh, Vietnam

After visiting all of Ninh Binh's beautiful destinations such as Trang An, Bai Dinh, Hoa Lu, Tam Coc... and so on, you can return to the city center and board a bus to Ha Giang at 20.00. 
This night journey similarly takes about 7- 8 hours and costs between $15 and $20 USD.

3. From Sapa, Vietnam

The Ha Giang bus will welcome you at Sapa's bus station, which is near to the city center and very easy to access. You can also choose between two buses every day at 8:00 a.m. or 8:00 p.m. This bus is the same distance, time, and price as the two buses mentioned above.
